LEN BUSCH GRABS COTM AWARD

Another unbeaten month for the Sevenoaks Suns has seen head coach Len Busch rewarded with his second Molten WBBL Coach of the Month award, following his earlier success in November.

The month of February included three league victories, two of which against third-placed Sheffield Hatters, a side who had lost just once at this point.

Both games were very different, with the first 57-54 win proving to be the toughest game the Suns played all season, and the second being a much more comfortable affair. Busch coached two brilliant defensive displays, restricting the league’s second hottest offense to under 60 points in both meetings. The Hatters average 84 points per game.

The other league game was a huge 60-point defeat of the Oakland Wolves, another in which their defense shone, only conceding 26 points, a season low for any team.

It was a quarter-final matchup in the WBBL Trophy against the Essex Rebels which opened the month, with a high-scoring triumph booking the Suns’ place in the semi-final. They have subsequently opened this month in similar fashion, advancing to the final which will be played in two weeks’ time.

As it has been all season, Busch’s side is dominating every opponent they play on both ends of the court, but it is their defensive prowess that is perhaps most impressive. On average, they give up just 49 points per game, the best in the league by far, allowing opponents to shoot just 29% from the field. They also have a league-high in rebounding as well as committing the fewest fouls.

Busch and the Suns will hope that March will bring even more success, with the opportunity to lift their first silverware of the season coming up against the only other unbeaten side in London Lions. As well as a WBBL Trophy victory, they will also look to maintain their 100% record in the league.
