Suns Player Paolo with inspiring Initiative

Paolo brings Basketball to Special Needs Schools.

We are incredibly proud to highlight an amazing initiative started by one of our best players—not just a standout on the court, but a true leader off it. With humility, dedication, and a deep sense of community, he took it upon himself to bring basketball to special needs schools, ensuring more children can experience the joy and benefits of the game.

Each week, students from First Acre Wood, West Heath, and Valence School take part in engaging sessions, learning the fundamentals—dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork—through interactive games and specially adapted drills.

Inspired by how basketball shaped him as a person, teammate, and leader, he wanted to extend those same opportunities to children who may not always have access to structured sports. His dedication has been truly transformational, helping these young players build confidence, develop new skills, and most importantly, have fun!

Paolo has also had the support of assistants who have helped make the sessions even more effective and engaging for the children. A special thank you goes to Claire Strage, who played a key role in coordinating with Paolo and the schools to set up this activity, ensuring everything ran smoothly.

The impact has been incredible! Getting to know each player personally has made the sessions even more special, strengthening connections and enhancing their enjoyment. Hearing phrases like:

💬 “I can’t wait for next week!”

💬 “Basketball is now my favourite sport!”

💬 “Teach me more!”

…proves just how much this initiative means to them.

This is more than just basketball—it’s about inclusion, empowerment, and creating opportunities for every child. There is a strong intention to continue this amazing initiative in the coming years, potentially expanding it to more schools and making it a lasting part of the community.

We are beyond proud of our player’s efforts, not only as one of our best on the court but as an incredible role model in the community.
