WBBL REPORT: MYSTICS 59-80 SUNS

Sevenoaks Suns secured their fifth league win in a row with a dominant 80-59 victory at the Manchester Met Mystics.

A fantastic all-round performance from Araion Bradshaw saw her produce 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and six steals. Renee Busch also contributed with 19 points.

It was actually the hosts who started the brighter, racing into a quick 4-0 lead thanks to buckets from Samantha Keltos. However, it did not last long as the Suns’ shooters soon got into rhythm starting with Busch. The Mystics managed to maintain their offense shooting 50% from the field, but only took a two-point lead into the second quarter due to six turnovers.

Turnovers continued to be an issue for the home side as Bradshaw opened the quarter forcing one with a steal. The defensive intensity soon translated to the offense as the Suns began to pull away from an increasingly tiring opposition. A 10-0 run pushed them into a seven-point lead and from this point they did not look back.

Keltos also scored 21 points and she helped keep her side within reach heading into the half, with a seven-point deficit to overcome.

The third quarter was the period in which the Suns took full control of the game and pulled away once and for all. There was success beyond the arc with the visitors sinking five triples to keep extending the lead. They capitalised on multiple fast-break opportunities and the Mystics struggled to get a hold on the game defensively or offensively.

With a huge 24-point advantage in the final quarter, the Suns relaxed a little but their opponents admirably refused to lie down and ultimately won the period. Despite the final score line, it was a competitive contest.

Suns now have seven wins on their season, including a fourth on the road as they continued their fine form away from home. Home is where they return next week to host the Durham Palatinates as they look to make it six victories in a row.
